Homily - August 15, 2010 - Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary
Wednesday, August 25th, 2010Let us turn to Mary that we will have the ability to do that, to continually see the dignity of the human person and to trust in Mary’s intercession for the beauty of this world.
When Beirut was being bombed back in the 80’s Mother Theresa wanted to bring her nuns into the city to take care of the sick and injured. She went up to the general and said, “Tomorrow we are going to go into Beirut”, and the general laughed at her and said, “Mother you’re crazy just three days ago, four priest were killed just for being priests. There’s a war, we’ve been trying for a cease fire, there is no cease fire in sight. I will not let you go into Beirut.” and Mother Theresa said, tomorrow is a feast day of Our Lady and I have asked Our Lady for a cease fire so that we can go to Beirut.
It was August 14, and the next day there was a cease fire, miraculously, and Mother Theresa went into Beirut and there were a lot of injured and there were a lot of homeless and a lot of orphaned children and Mother Theresa just concentrated on the good that she could do.
A reporter went up to her and said, “What about all those homeless children on the other side of Beirut, what are you going to do about them sister.” and she just ignored his comment. She said, “don’t you think it is good that we are helping these children?” and so let us turn to Mary and her intercession so that we do something good for the little part of the world that God has given us too.
